Happy Birthday, Singapore...or rather Happy Belated Birthday @ 8/10/2006 12:54:00 PM
It is simply fantastically fantastic! After being a Singaporean for so many years, I finally got the chance to watch NDP LIVE!!!! How cool! That would be the first and also the last time at National Stadium...can die with no regrets liao :D
From Kallang MRT station, we could see that almost everyone was dressed in red, just like a sea of reds. So nice! The human jam actually started from the MRT station. Some of the walked over to take chartered bus. My hubby and I decided to follow the rest and walked ourselves into the stadium. That is another way of getting involved in the whole atmosphere.
Wait....just before we wanna join the group to cross the road, I realised something! I can feel my 'monthly friend'. Goodness! Don't tell me 'she' has decided to arrive a day earlier? Don't tell me she has decided to celebrate National Day with the rest of us? *gasp* No no no...I can feel it, I definitely can. 'She' is not joking with me. 'She' has indeed arrived at a very very wrong timing. And the most thing is, 'she' comes when I am not prepared. Now, what should I do?
I told my hubby we gotta cut through the group to another path. I need to prepare for 'her' arrival. Or rather, it's not prepare, is to welcome 'her'. We searched through the whole stretch and there is not even a provision shop? How cool can it be? Just when I needed 'japanese bread', there is no shop that sells it? I find ourselves walking further and further down the road.
Thank goodness! We found a shop! That shop is my saviour! 'It' has saved me! Without really taking much time to consider the brand, compare the prices, i grabbed one and paid then out of the shop immediately. We walked back the way to the stadium.
We are stuck in the crowd, the crowd of 'Reds'. Once again, we have to move real slow. I seriously dun mind that. We have to pass through the security check first before we are allowed to enter. Thennnn....we got our goodies bags!!!! Well, i'm not really that cheapo lah. I'm not there to get the goodies bag lor but then, that is a perk lah...hehehhe
I'm not supposed to get air-headed just cos of the goodies bag, i'm supposed to do something which is at that point of time more important. So without further delay, i rushed to the Ladies to do what I am supposed to do. Well, I shan't elaborate :P
After all those that needed to be done, we went in to grab our seats. Hmmmm....ours won't the best seats but hey, they aren't that bad either. We have a pretty good view also. I was very much over-whelmed by the crowd. Suddenly, I felt very _________! Can't find the most appropriate word to describe my feelings at that point of time. I was actually one of the crowd watching LIVE! I was like......feel like crying....Ok ok, I am not trying to be a drama queen but then the feeling was rather fabulous! Hmmmm...anyone understand how I really feel?
The emcees for the night was Sheik Haqeel, Gurmit Singh, Jean Danker and Michelle Chia. They, excluding Sheik, made a different kind of appearance, by flying fox. That was quite special. They did a very good job, hosting the NDP and making everyone joined in, let's not forget the Motivators also. They tried to get each and everyone of us involved in every segment.
I was surprised to see that my idol Chen Wei Lian was one of the performers for the night. I quickly asked my hubby to whip out the digicam and snapped a few shots of him. Wow! That was really a pleasant surprise! ;) Then, the part that I always like arrived. All ministers steped into the stadium. I was anticipating in silence for his arrival. Hmmm...can't really see him very clearly though I had my specs on. I was trying to strain my eyes and telling myself not to miss him. Oh! I am talking about who? Well, he is Mr LKY. I always have a very 'special feeling' towards LKY. I mean I do like the rest of the ministers but then for him, I just like him a little bit more. I keep urging my hubby to zoom in when he enters. He is forever a hero in my heart. After so much thing that he has done for Singapore, he really deserves to be called as the ‘国父'....then finally, HE ARRIVED! Quick! Quick! Quick! Quick zoom in to take photos of him, I told my hubby. Very happy, very glad that I did not missed him. After that, we waited for PM's arrival. He arrived and waved to Singaporeans. He was welcomed by thunders of applause so did The Excellency. They are all simply loved by all Singaporeans, I love them, too :D
Well, after all these, we sat back and waited for the show to start. The Marching Contigents! Smart postures, well-pressed uniforms, they marched past. I always feel a surge of proud feeling whenever I watch them every year. Very kiddish? No ah! I just feel that we are indeed fortunate to have all these people protecting our country so that we will be able to enjoy each and every day. After all these march-past, the perforamces starts. I really enjoyed watching the performances and of course not forgetting the fireworks that won't fail to thrill me.
This year, I guess, the performances were choreographed in such a way that the fireworks would be able to blend in. I must salute to those who did that as it was really perfectly done! I can still remember those behind, beside in front of me wow-ing when they saw the fireworks. Of course, I am one of them lah.
Not forgetting the finale! The fireworks are awesome! It's absolutely fantastic, wonderful...hmmmm...to sum up the whole thing, watching NDP LIVE at the stadium is a total different experience. If given the chance, I would wanna watch it LIVE. Even if I have to pass through the human jams, have to go early jus to watch that 2 hours show, have to go home late, I would say that it is all worthwhile.
Because I am celebrating the Nation's Birthday with all the Singaporeans together....
